An antique hutch styled simply but beautifully in this Indiana farmhouse

Hi, sweet friends. Normally when I think of summer, I think of life at a much slower pace. Lazy summer days filled with sunshine and sweet tea and lightning bugs and bonfires. But this summer so far has been pretty hectic with a wisdom tooth removal surgery, baseball tournament after baseball tournament for the boys, embarking on a new adventure to open a small shop at a local antique store, and having to say goodbye to our 12 year old cocker spaniel pup. It hasn’t exactly been the laid-back summer I imagined we would have, but we’ve been enjoying each and every day to the fullest, as crazy as it has been.

I think our little farmhouse has reflected this season of busyness, and I’ve worked on simplifying our decor to feel cozy, calm, and low maintenance. Only using pieces that I truly love and that can be staples in our home year round, regardless of the season. Today I’m joining an amazing group of bloggers for a Simply Summer Home Tour, as you may remember I did last year. While much hasn’t changed in the farmhouse lately, I do have one space to show you that I’ve been working on this summer, and I love how our living room looks now after moving this antique hutch from the entryway into our living room.

This hutch is one of my most treasured pieces of furniture in the house, and while I loved having it in the entryway, it felt a little big and overwhelming as soon as you walked into the house. I got the itch to move it into the living room one day recently, and it became the perfect focal point for the back wall in the living room. I kept the decor in the hutch simple and neutral, with a soft blanket and pillow, some of my favorite decorative bowls and pitchers, and a basket of miscellaneous old linens.

I moved our two gray chairs in front of the hutch, and the boys and I love cuddling up here in the evenings to read books and watch movies.

It would be very easy to fill all those shelves to the brim with books and plants and other pretty things, but I find that leaving them more open and carefully edited gives this space such a soothing, calm feeling that I crave right now. This is how summer looks at our farmhouse, and I’m so glad you stopped by to say hello and see a small piece of our home. I invite you to visit the rest of the bloggers on the tour today too!
