Just a few days till Christmas now, and the house feels so warm and cozy. The glow of lights on the tree, presents wrapped with little ribbons & bows, stockings hung waiting for Christmas Eve…

I may still have a long to-do list before the big day, but our house is all ready for the celebrations to begin.

I know you aren’t able to be here in person, but I am more than excited to welcome you into our home through these photos. Step inside our Christmas living room, sweet friend…

This is probably one of the most “traditional” Christmas looks I’ve done in our home with pops of red and green mixed throughout all the soft, cozy neutrals. I moved quite a bit of furniture around to find the perfect place for our Christmas tree and even added some new seating as we get ready to host family for the holidays.

  • If you’ve been here for a few years, you may remember when the space I refer to as our “entryway” was used as a dining room. I moved our big dining table back into the entryway to make room for the tree, and I’m actually enjoying using this space more intentionally again.
  • Speaking of the tree, I bought a new one this year! There is absolutely nothing wrong with the one I had, other than I wanted a slimmer version to fit better in our small space, and I really, really wanted a prelit tree. No more untangling strands of lights every year! The last one I had was from Balsam Hill, and after having one of their trees, it’s hard to ever go with a different brand. The quality is top notch, it comes with a storage bag, as well as a separate pouch for the tree stand with gloves for protecting your hands while fluffing the branches included. It’s a bit of an investment for sure, but something we will use year after year and worth the price for me. This is the tree we upgraded to.
  • We also said goodbye to the tufted recliner and hello to two beautiful upholstered armchairs for more seating. That recliner was a great purchase and very comfortable for the price, but I was ready for something different. It probably sounds odd to say this, but I didn’t love how all the seating in here (both the sectional and the recliner) were all tufted and matchy-matchy. I wanted a little bit of variety in the style, while still looking cohesive. I bought two of these chairs, and while they were not fun to assemble (getting all the screw holes lined up was a pain), I absolutely love the way they look. The seat is nice and spacious, so I can curl up with a blanket comfortably or rest my feet on the coffee table if I want my feet up.
  • Do you recognize the pillows on the sofa? I used the burgundy and plaid pillows for fall with the intention of transitioning them into the Christmas season. I just added in some plush faux fur for a cozy winter vibe and two “joy” pillows that I’ve had for years. Love when I can reuse what I already have.

These shelves were so fun to style for the holidays. Everything I used was older decor that I come up with new ways to style each year…

  • galvanized metal houses from Walmart
  • white ceramic trees & scenic view sign from Gordman’s
  • little gnome jar from my shop
  • nutcrackers from the craft store
  • a driftwood deer that I can’t remember for the life of me where it came from
  • and a framed piece of Christmas-themed fabric for artwork
  • plus some wreaths & garland for a touch of nature

I bought a few winter-inspired prints from one of my favorite art curators, Collection Prints. This snowy forest ended up in the front entryway above our stockings that are hung from the coat hooks by the front door. Sometimes you have to get creative and work with the space you have. Since I don’t have a fireplace or mantel, this was a good solution!

Want to know how I made that clay star garland? You can check out the tutorial here.

This year my tree decor was inspired by a photo I saw from CB2. They used stems of faux pampas grass throughout the tree, with larger bulbs scattered sparsely in between. I absolutely loved the whimsical look the pampas grass added and was determined to recreate it on a smaller budget.

I found faux pampas grass stems at Kirkland’s that are pretty similar to the ones from CB2 and didn’t cost a fortune since I got them on sale. I used probably a dozen stems total and bent the end of the stems so they were hidden inside the tree.

I added some large white bulbs (from Balsam Hill and Hobby Lobby) and a couple faux fur & feather balls (also new from Kirkland’s) as well. I wanted to have a more simple, sparsely decorated tree this year, and I love the “animal” theme this tree ended up having. It took no time to decorate, and it’s been such a fun change from years past. I’m not used to the “less is more” theory when it comes to decorating our tree, and it definitely took some restraint not to go overboard. But I truly love how it all turned out.

All of my wrapping paper and ribbon this year came from Michael’s. I ordered the cutest green & black plaid paper and black & white evergreen tree paper and had it shipped to my door. One of the things I enjoy most about the holidays is giving someone a beautifully wrapped present that makes them feel extra special. It takes just a few seconds more to add a pretty ribbon or bow, and there are so many easy ways you can dress up a package.
